The FMJH: A focal point for mathematics on Paris-Saclay Campus

The purpose of the Fondation Mathématiques Jacques Hadamard (FMJH) is to bring together the mathematicians of the Paris-Saclay campus in order to form a research community of the highest caliber in both pure and applied mathematics. In recent years, interaction between mathematics and other fields and the business world has become increasingly important with all of these areas seeing an increased demand for modeling, quantitative analysis, and simulation techniques. One of the primary goals of the FMJH is to promote openness and exchange between mathematics and other disciplines and between mathematics and the commercial sector. Possible methods to reach this goal include organizing encounters between researchers and enterprises, organizing collaborations with the industry, and providing students with internship opportunities in the business world.

FMJH: an open foundation

The Fondation Mathématique Jacques Hadamard was created by five founding members (Université Paris-Sud, Ecole Polytechnique, Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan, Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques, CNRS) with the support of several other associate members. The foundation welcomes new partners wishing to participate in the organization and development of the mathematics community on the Paris-Saclay campus.

Deuxième journée maths-parité 24 juin 2013 à l'IHP

La deuxième journée maths-parité s'adresse à tous les mathématiciens et toutes les mathématiciennes intéressés par les questions de parité.

Elle bénéficie pour l'instant du soutien moral et financier de l'INSMI, de la Fondation mathématique Jacques Hadamard (FMJH), de la fondation Sciences Mathématiques de Paris, de la SMAI,du soutien d'Inria, de la MIDAPI, de l'association Femmes et mathématiques, de la SMF, de la Mission pour la place des femmes au CNRS, et du parrainage moral de la SFDS.

Après une première édition sur le thème des carrières universitaires en mathématique, la deuxième journée sera axée sur l'enseignement en mathématiques et les stéréotypes de genre dans cet enseignement. Son but est d'essayer de dresser un tableau de l'évolution de l'enseignement en mathématiques, de la situation actuelle, de comprendre le faible taux de femmes dans nos métiers et l'influence des stéréotypes et, dans la mesure du possible, de proposer des solutions concrètes.

La deuxième journée maths-parité se déroulera à l'IHP le 24 juin 2013

Benoît Desjardins, close to research conducted in companies, joins the FMJH

Benoît Desjardins, CTO of the Scientific Society MOMA, joined the FMJH (hosted by the CMLA) for a part-time position. Internationally ecognized researcher (see CV), the FMJH will benefit from its experience in the relationships with companies. He will be a natural point of contact for R&D centers of companies (benoit.desjardins@fondation-hadamard.fr).

2eme Séminaire Itzykson Maths Physique sur le thème "Cartes Planaires et Gravité Quantique" vendredi 8 Février 2013

The FMJH will support  a new seminar in Mathematics and Physics -- the Itzykson seminar --  organized by Thibault Damour, Maxim Kontsevich,  François Labourie, Stéphane Nonnenmacher and Wendelin Werner.  Four or six sessions a year are planed in the IHES.

The second seminar will be organized on February, 8th 2013 at IHES - Amphithéâtre Marilyn et James Simons

The first Seminar Itzykson in Mathematics and Physics Friday November 16, 2012

The FMJH will support  a new seminar in Mathematics and Physics -- the Itzykson seminar --  organized by Thibault Damour, Maxim Kontsevich,  François Labourie, Stéphane Nonnenmacher and Wendelin Werner.  Four or six sessions a year are planed in the IHES. The first seminar will be organized in November, 2012 and will speak about Quantum Chaos. Please register online.
