Le prix Jacques Herbrand, d’un montant de 25.000 €, a été créé en 1996. C’est un prix annuel décerné alternativement :
dans le domaine des sciences mathématiques, destiné à récompenser de jeunes chercheurs de moins de 35 ans, dont les travaux auront été jugés utiles au progrès des mathématiques ou de leurs applications pacifiques ;
dans le domaine des sciences physiques, destiné à récompenser de jeunes chercheurs de moins de 35 ans, dont les travaux auront été jugés utiles au progrès des sciences physiques ou de leurs applications pacifiques

On August 19th, 2010, at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Hyderabad, India, Ngô Bao Châu, professor of mathematics of the Department of Mathematics at Orsay and the Institute for Advance Study, received the Fields Medal for his proof of the “Fundamental Lemma” in the theory of automorphic forms.
It is the fourth Fields Medal awarded to a member of the mathematics department of Orsay, following those of J.-C. Yoccoz (1994), L. Lafforgue (2002), and W. Werner (2006).

Nalini Anantharaman has been awarded the 2010 Salem Prize for her work on the Schrödinger equation, a fundamental equation in quantum physics.
Nalini Anantharaman is a professor at the Université Paris-Sud (LMO, UMR8628) and the vice president of the Société Mathématiques de France.
Since 1968, the Raphaël SALEM prize has been awarded annually to a young mathematician whose work has had a dramatic impact on one of the research areas of Raphaël Salem, in particular those related to Fourier series.
The Carl Friedrich Gauss Prize for applied mathematics is a prize awarded jointly by the International Mathematical Union and the German Mathematical Union to reward “outstanding contributions leading to significant applications outside the field of mathematics.” This award is given every four years at the International Congress of Mathematics. Unlike the Fields Medal, there is no age-based eligibility condition.
