The second series of lectures :
Some mathematical structures arising in physics and applications par
PR. VICTOR KAC (MIT et IHÉS) from 5 November to 6 December 2012
Abstract. The basic idea of the course is to start with a non-rigorous notion coming from physics, like the operator product expansion in quantum field theory, or local and non-local Poisson bracket in the theory of integrable systems, show how to make these notions rigorous, develop a theory of the corresponding structures, and then explain some applications.
Topics, covered in the course, include vertex algebras, that arise in conformal field theories, and local and non-local Poisson vertex algebras, that arise in the theory of integrable systems of Hamiltonian PDE.
In particular, I will explain how to use these structures in representation theory, and in the proof of integrability of Hamiltonian PDE.
Schedule : Monday and Thursday from November 5, 2012 to December 6, 2012 from 10:00 to 12:00 am at IHÉS
